It was my sophomore year on the basketball court, against
our rival team and our last game of the season. Our school is about fifteen
miles apart. We all know each other pretty well and no matter how each other’s
seasons are going this game is always a close one. We score a basket to cut it
to just two with five seconds left. We press them full court and they try to
get the ball in and they throw a full court pass that touches no one and goes
out of bounds and making it our ball under our basketball because of no one
touching the ball. Coach calls time out, I ask coach if we should go for the
tie or the win. He looks at me and is unsure what to say he says “go for the
tie”. The buzzer sounds for the teams to dismiss from their timeout. One of my
close friends is under the basket, throwing the ball in. I glance in the stands
and it is a packed house, the student section is packed and the stands above were
filled to the top. I look back to my friend under the basket and nod my head,
the referee hands the ball to my teammate. He slaps the ball and I run to the
opposite wing of the zone that they are playing on defense when the play was
supposed to go on the ball side for a lay-up to tie. My teammate passes me the
ball and I quickly catch and shoot in rhythm. I can still picture the crowd and
the ball perfectly going through the hoop and the crowd erupting. The buzzer
sounds and all my teammates hug and jump on me as we won by one. Coach hugs me
and says he is so proud and thanks me for making the shot. When we were in the
locker room I look at my phone that was blown up with tweets from my class
mates, by far the best memory I had as a basketball player.
it's a really well written story with good use of wording to help the read picture what you are talking about.
