Week Eleven Blog

Dear Student,

“College work requires new kinds of motivation and self-discipline”, this is one of the best said sentences to sum up my first college experience here at Defiance College. It is very true that everything is new and different and you have no one but yourself to motivate you to finish your work. Another quote from Hjortshoj is “College courses are not direct continuations of high school instruction” which is very true. This is totally new and if I had a say in anything to do with the state, I would definitely have more classes that actually prepare you for college not just say they are preparing you because in the reality they really aren’t helping you prepare for it as much as they could be.
Two differences for me that Hjortshoj did not address on is, being a good test taker. If you aren’t a good test taker then you are going to be in a big hole, some courses grade only go off of exams and nothing else besides attendance. The second difference that kind of goes with the first one is study, in high school you can easily get away with not studying and believe me I know I have been there way too many times. Stepping into college you HAVE to study, it isn’t a choice. You will fail if you don’t and when you fail once, it can be tough to come out of a hole even though it is just one simple exam.
Essentially high school administrators are lying to your face because they aren’t preparing yourself for the real world and for college. They treat you like babies and treat you like you’re in middle school or elementary school.  They say they are helping you when in reality they are just hurting you in what you could be learning to better your future.

Thank You

The Roller Coaster

College exams can be a total roller coaster. You can be so prepared and then still fail an exam. It is so stressful going through classes when you know you are getting your exam back later in the day. That is all you think about and it stays with you’re the whole day or even longer. Exams are so different than what they were in high school, maybe it is just me but every test I took in high school I knew if I failed it or passed it. Here in college you never know what you are going to get, you can only expect what you are going to get. College grades can defiantly be defined as a roller coaster.

Anything blog (Injury)

Coming into my first collegiate season of baseball I came in hungry to prove myself to my coaches and teammates that I can play and be the person they can trust on the field. I am a pitcher and we all have to do our own workout with weighted balls, running and bands to get our arms ready before every time we throw. With that being said I was injured a week ago and saw our doctor and was told that I over threw, over lifted, over did bands and weighted balls, and messed up my shoulder and I am unable to throw for a couple of weeks. This put me in a really depressing time because of how hard I worked in the off season and to now go nowhere, so I now have to sit out for a couple of weeks and do rehab to heal my shoulder and gain my strength back.
